As the year began, I was presented with the Logitech Signature M650 ergonomic mouse, designed for both right and left-handed office users. It was characterized by high-quality workmanship, extensive dedicated software and long working time on a replaceable AA battery. This time, the manufacturer decided to slightly enrich the set of its portfolio, releasing a wireless keyboard dedicated to the mouse, which recently had its world premiere. Logitech Signature K650 is a classic-looking wireless keyboard, created for office work, but also for very basic entertainment. It will especially please users of the previously mentioned computer mouse and lovers of ergonomics.

Ecological performance
Once again, we receive the product in an eco-friendly cardboard box, in which, in addition to the keyboard itself, the manufacturer has added a USB Logi Bolt receiver, user manual and warranty card. The keyboard was wrapped in the white paper, protecting it in transport from external factors, while keeping it clean. The device is made of plastic with a certificate of origin from recycled consumer plastics. In the case of the white colour version tested by me, 21% of such plastic was used and in the case of graphite colour as much as 28%. This reduces our carbon footprint significantly.

When you take the keyboard out of the box, you’ll notice how light it is(~700g). It is slim, does not take up too much space on the desk and has been equipped with a comfortable palm rest, increasing comfort during long sessions in front of the computer. This classic-looking keyboard is slightly different from other models on the market at first glance, but this is only a pretence. The device is very well made and assembled. The construction is resistant to bending, maintaining its original shape. The support used was made of plastic with a rough finish, satisfactorily holding the wrists in one position, without unnecessary sliding on the case. I’ll leave the visual issues to each individual, but I personally really like the return to the classic keyboard design.

The manufacturer has used its product deeply cushioned keys. They have a special dimple, allowing for fast and trouble-free typing and a good quality jump and damping, which will not disturb other people at work. In addition to the full-size key layout, we can also find shortcut keys here, capable of triggering with“Fn” the screenshot, switching between windows, cutting content or launching office programs. Closer to the top edge, we find six multimedia keys, responsible for controlling the volume of the music played and songs.

On the right side of the keyboard, there is a power slider, with which you can initiate the operation of the device, only when connected to a computer Logi Bolt receiver, or wirelessly via Bluetooth. On the bottom of the keyboard, there are special holes that allow you to get rid of liquids in case of accidental flooding. There are also bendable feet that allow you to adjust the angle of the device in three dimensions – flat, 5 degrees and 10 degrees. The feet, as well as the bottom part of the keyboard, are equipped with rubber stops, preventing the keyboard from sliding on a flat surface.

To use the keyboard, all you have to do is pair it with your device via Bluetooth or use the included Logi Bolt USB receiver. However, to take advantage of the multitude of additional features, you will need to install the dedicated Logi Options+ software, compatible with the manufacturer’s newer devices.

On the main screen, you will be able to check the devices paired with the receiver and their charge status. By clicking directly on the device, you get access to personalized function shortcuts on the multimedia keys and the ability to assign application programs. It seems like a trivial thing, but it allows you to quickly switch between them, without having to search through computer resources. There are also options for updating the firmware.

Practice makes perfect
The keyboard is equipped with two AA LR6 1.5V alkaline batteries. According to assurances of the manufacturer, these cells will contribute to a very long time of work on a single charge, approaching even 36 months of operation (3 years). This is a very good result, which we can slightly modify, equipping ourselves with replaceable rechargeable batteries. Working on the keyboard itself is extremely pleasant. Specially adapted keys significantly contribute to fast typing and applied to cushion, significantly reducing the noise of tapping on the keyboard.

I really liked the bright colour of the keyboard finish, which slightly modifies my workstation, which is dominated by black. When it comes to keeping the keyboard clean, it’s not so bad at all, as the manufacturer itself on its website recommends wiping it dry with a cloth or using a special degreaser for electronics. I expect it to last quite a while, although I missed at least a specialized grip for the keys to be able to lift them more comfortably and get into the spaces between the keys and the case. These spaces are very hard to clean because the slightly curved keys connect too stiffly with the plastic case. It can be done even with a sharp knife, but I’m afraid that soon the keys will be badly damaged.

Summary
The Logitech Signature K650 for a Business keyboard made a very good first impression on me, reminding me of the days of classic devices of this type. It’s a very efficient working tool with a lot of features and software shortcuts to be accessed via a dedicated app. As a big plus, we should also add the easy cleaning process, spill resistance, and long working time on AA batteries. The keyboard recently had its world premiere and is available in two colour variants – white* and graphite* in sets with the included M650 mouse, which I did a review of recently on the blog. This set has been priced at ~£40.
